Project Evaluation:Platform Games P1

In the first part of the project I did observation drawings, thumbnail sketches, initial sketches, planning sketches and developed sketches. The sorts of tools I used in this part of the project were, Pencils, Pens, Photoshop and a drawing pad. I thought that all the materials were very officiant and I worked well with all of them, However the tool I worked best with was pencil. The reason I like to use a pencil is because I'm able to get more detail into my artwork and I can rub out any mistakes I make. I also like working with colour pencils because they're very good for blending and they add a lot of life to a drawing. Drawing different representations of my characters allowed me to come up with my final designs for them. The other materials I used where Google, Wikipedia and Game review sites, I used these tools to research stuff like game environments, The things my characters where based off and doing some research in to other platform games. I have used adobe photoshop with the drawing pad, I also used pencil and colouring to show my final designs. I have used photoshop painting and colouring pencils to add dimension to my drawings and in photoshop I used a soft brush so I could layer up my painting. I think that with all these elements I used I managed to make a good amount of Initial ideas for my game and I have I pretty good idea of what my game is going to be like.

These are some observational drawings I did to relate to Ronex

These are some sketches that are related to my game.

Mythologies and stories for my Game.

My main character is based on the old folklore beast called a hell hound. These creatures are part demon and part dog, they are often seen as guardians of certain things such as e.g. gates, doors and the devil.

My main villian Billy is based off the creature known as the rake. This creature was sort of an urban legend made on the internet, the rumour was first spread during 2003 and it originated from the north-eastern region of the United States.

Building a level from found objects

We built a 3D concept of level by using different objects from the cupboards. This helped us get a better idea of where to put stuff like enemies, items and bosses in our game. After we set up the levels we took videos and photos to show how the two levels where laid out, also we showed how to get to one level from another. We also took a certain part of the level and did a planning sketch of it. After we did the planning sketches we put them up on the wall in order. We navigated the level by taking a video of it and showing all the different collectables and hidden items you can get along the way, we also showed how you progressed to the next level. In the second part of the lesson we took ours or somebody else's planning sketch and did a representation of it in photoshop, we also learned how to use layers effectively in photoshop and how to do light and shadow.
