Researching Job Roles In The Games Industrty- 13th October 2016

First I chose a job role I wanted and I made a power point explaining what I had to do in the job, what would my salary be, what are the requirements for that specific job were, etc. I chose a storyboard artist and the power point I made is down below.

World of Work Challenge to Set Up Own Games Company- 24th November 2016

We have to design our own games company, we need to work in groups in order to make a game that's interesting and appeals to others. This will give us some experience and help us get into a job in the games design industry.

This is the mindmap for our game we are planning to make an rpg, with some education elements thrown in however these will not be the main focus of the game.

General Company Work

Paper Plan of the First Level
We worked to together to make a plan of our first level for our game, we all had to work on different parts.

First Level Research
The first level of our game will be centered around the gunpowder plot, which took place place on November 5th 1605. The actual level will be about the letter that was sent to the Monteagal warning him about the gunpowder plot. Our character will have to deliver this letter to Monteagle.

Gameplay: The Character will have to solve puzzles to open gates and make distractions to lure guards away from where he needs to go.

Construct 2 Research

Some Construct 2 Research

We need to set the layout size to 4000 to 2048,

Before we start thinking about sprites and animations we need to block out the basic structure of the level e.g.. The level layout, where the obstacles are, where the enemies will be places and the end of the level.

To have a character move you go into the properties and apply the platforming option. To make sure you don't fall through the platforms when you jump on them, you have to go into their properties and apply the solid trait.

WOW Evaluation

Are game was about a guy who comes from another country and wants to learn about the different cultures in Britain. At the beginning of the game he's attending firework night, then he falls in to a portal that sends him back  to 1605, the year the letter was delivered to the Monteagal to warn him about firework night.

It's helping people who are coming from different countries settle in to Britain, teaching them about all the different celebrations and traditions that are found in Britain.

The project brief was okay for what it was and didn't limit our creativity that much. What I was most disappointed about was the way our project turned out.

I despise coding even in a more simplified format in construct, it constantly messes up and breaks, then you have to go through the whole list of code you've stacked up to find the one mistake you made. Honestly I would have preferred an artistic job like a character designer, environment artist or an asset artist.

A lot of the time I felt like I was just there for no reason. I was supposed to be a storyboard artist but I made one storyboard that wasn't even used, when it got around to coding I had to come up with my own level design (although in the end I was helped).
